Thank You Harry Reid & Happy Birthday Martin Luther King

As a parent, sometimes it is very hard to explain the lessons of life and pass these on to my two boys, but thanks to Harry Reid, he made my job really easy.

My family has had to deal with being called racists by small minded people because we are registered Republicans. All differences of opinions with hard core ideologues always denigrate into being called racists. It's the standard playbook. But we laugh it off because we know the truth of who we are.

Listening to Harry Reid explain his recent comments is a lesson in compromised values and one that can only be taught by example. When Harry Reid privately confided he supported Barak Obama and isn't it wonderful that Obama doesn't have a "negro dialect" and he is "light-skinned". Reid demonstrated that those who scream the loudest and point the finger the quickest on racism should really take stock of their own hearts. Reid and all those who rush in defense of his comments are really not in alignment with anything resembling equality. It is about partisanship.

So it was a great opportunity for me to point out that there is an alternative. We can use this as reminder why "The Dream" speech by Martin Luther King is considered one of the greatest speeches of all time.

So here is an early Happy Birthday prayer to you, Martin Luther King. And I will quote one of my favorite lines from the speech. I think it is very timely indeed:

"I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character."
